Your Gallipoli Day tour from Istanbul starts early with pick up from hotels around the Taksim area between 0600 and 0630, and pick up from Sultanahmet area hotels occurring between 0630 and 0700.
We then head out of the city, driving towards Eceabat, stopping half way for breakfast / morning tea.
We arrive in Eceabat at approximately 1200, and will have lunch in a local restaurant before heading for the now-peaceful site of the Gallipoli Peninsula. This is a popular site with visitors from all over the world, particular those from Australia, New Zealand and Turkey, who come to pay tribute to those who lost their lives here in the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915 which lasted for 8 months.
The Gallipoli Campaign during World War I was an unsuccessful attempt by the Allied forces to take control of the Dardanelles, key to controlling the sea route Europe to Russia. It began with a failed naval attack by British and French ships on the Dardanelles Straits in February-March 1915 and continued with a major land invasion of the Gallipoli Peninsula on April 25, involving British and French troops as well as divisions of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC).
